January 2009

At the beginning of the month Shaun started to do this crawl where he puts his head down, looks straight down at the floor and crawls really fast. He runs into things because he is not looking where he is going! I guess speed is better than direction….? He is getting a little steadier and confident on his feet. He can lean against a wall or chair or something without holding on at all. And, breaking news, just in the last week he has started to take a few steps!!! He falls after taking a few, but he does it! He has also advanced to the “big boy” bathtub. No more inflatable tub inside the tub. He is in the real thing. We got a mat so it is less slippery. He loves to splash around and play.

We also were trying to decide when would be a good time to try him longer in the nursery at church so we could go back to Sunday school. We were thinking maybe around his birthday, but then a new Sunday school started up this month, so we went for it! It starts half way through the first service, so he only has to be in the nursery for 2 hours instead of 2 ½. The first time he did okay. They said he was getting fussy and tired for the last half hour, but otherwise okay. We haven’t had to go rescue him in a while (knock on wood), so that is good. He usually cries when we leave him, but they are able to distract him with toys.

We found out some sad news that needs prayer. Bill’s dad (also named Bill) was diagnosed with stage 2/3 colon cancer. He had surgery at the end of December to remove a tumor and will be starting chemo here pretty soon for 4-6 months. He lives in Las Vegas with Bill’s step mom, Mickey.

On a lighter note, we finally got to have our Christmas Eve gathering! Shaun got even more spoiled. The snow can’t ruin Christmas, but it sure can delay it! Thankfully the snow has been gone this month (hopefully for the season), but the rain has sure come back!

Today was the last day for Shaun to get Mommy’s milk because I am DONE pumping!!! Over the past several months I have been greatly slowing down, and it felt like the time to stop based on how my body was reacting and producing. I figured it was close enough to his birthday to “count” as a full year! Shaun has been eating more and more of what we are for dinner. He is getting really good at it.

Tomorrow we are going to a super bowl party with some new friends from church. Go Arizona!!!

Here is a quick video of some first few steps:

1 for 2 for Championship Series Weekend

We were rooting for Arizona and Baltimore. Arizona won!!!! Woohoo! That is the only team we have been rooting for since the first round! We are glad that the NFC West will be going to the Superbowl. Now on to rooting for Arizona to beat Pittsburg in 2 weeks at the Superbowl!!! Who was saying that Arizona isn't that good.....? Ha, no one else (besides Pittsburg) is going to the Superbowl.

On another note, the Hunter household has been dealing with colds this week. Shaun caught it first from somewhere, past it to me and then on it went to Bill. Shaun has been pretty snotty, but not much more than that, which we are grateful! We have been blowing our noses quite a bit, but otherwise we can handle it.

I am looking forward to an extra day off tomorrow, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day!

1 for 4 for Divisional Series Weekend

Yup, our picks this weekend ended up worse than last weekend! The only team we picked that won was Arizona. Just look to the losers of the other games for our other picks! Oh, well. I would be sadder if it was the Seahawks losing, but they already did that this year!
Bill had Navy duty this weekend so he didn’t get to catch the games live. He successfully was able to not hear any scores. He is busily catching up now on the DVR. I think he is mostly through the 2nd game now, so he will be watching Sunday’s games tomorrow. I didn’t watch the games myself, but I did check in every now and then to see who was winning (or not) when I was home.

Next weekend, for the Championship series, there are only two games, so lets hope we can pick at least one to go to the super bowl!!! I am pretty sure we will be picking Arizona, but I have no idea on the other game.

2 for 4 for Wildcard Weekend

The Hunter household was 2 for 4 this weekend in “Wild Card Weekend”. I don’t know how many of you are “Football Widows”, but NFL football is big in this household, especially this time of year! Ok, it is not quite that bad. I actually enjoy watching the Seahawks and can be entertained by other games too. I have learned everything I know about the game from Bill since we have been married. I have learned enough to be able to follow the game well enough to be entertained and not totally lost. I cannot call all the flags like someone else in this house, but I am fine with that! I ask Bill who we are rooting for if it is not a Seahawks or Raiders game.

The two teams we wanted to win that did win were Arizona in the Arizona vs. Atlanta game and Philadelphia in the Phili vs. Minnesota game. We picked Arizona because they are the winners of the NFC West and we may as well support our own division even though the Seahawks didn’t win it. We picked Phili because we want them to face Arizona in the next round so Arizona has a better chance at advancing.

The two teams that we wanted to win that didn’t were Indianapolis in the Indi vs. San Diego game (this game came down to OT) and Miami in the Miami vs. Baltimore game. Bill (I mean we) picked Indi because we don’t like San Diego because they are the rivals of the Raiders. We picked Miami because we like them better.

Now lets hope we can do better next weekend for 4 more games!

And, as I write this, I am watching the snow come down again! It is supposed to turn to rain during the night, so I am CONFIDENT that we will wake up to nothing even though we have about an inch right now! Grrrr…..
